Synopsis

Set in the year 3000, the video follows the Backstreet Boys aboard a massive futuristic spaceship. A robot awakens the group from individual sleep pods, sending each member into a different sci-fi scenario: Nick works alongside robots, Kevin pilots a space fighter, Howie performs with dancers, Brian battles a spreading virus, and AJ searches through information crates. Their separate adventures are intercut with elaborate group choreography on a vast stage, building toward an extended dance finale.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, in August 1999.

• With elaborate sets, computer-generated effects, animation, costumes and choreography, the production was widely reported to have cost more than $2 million. Howie Dorough later recalled the figure as approximately $2.3 million, making it one of the most expensive music videos of its era.

• The futuristic concept draws on the visual language of science-fiction films including "Alien," "Blade Runner" and the "Star Wars" series.

• The robot who awakens the group is played by Antonio Fargas, the actor who portrayed the driver in the Backstreet Boys' earlier "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" video. His return creates a loose visual connection between two of the band's most theatrical clips.

• The extended dance section was created for the song's "Video Mix," which adds a breakdown before the final choruses. That version was used for the music video rather than the shorter album arrangement.

• Although the video is built around space battles, robots and futuristic technology, the song itself is a thank-you to the band's fans. The oversized production turns that message into a deliberately grand piece of Y2K-era pop spectacle.

• The video became a notable success on MTV's "Total Request Live," where it broke the Backstreet Boys' record for the longest run at number one.
