Synopsis

Set in a stylized version of Tokyo, the video follows an all-Japanese Oasis tribute band as it performs "Acquiesce" before an ecstatic concert crowd. The musicians imitate Liam, Noel, Bonehead, Guigsy, and Tony, copying their stage clothes, poses, gestures, and playing styles. Intercut shots show the band moving through London locations dressed to resemble Tokyo streets. The result is an affectionate, deliberately surreal tribute to Oasis' popularity in Japan and the devotion of the band's overseas fans.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was filmed in September 2006 at the Electric Ballroom in Camden Town, London, despite being presented as a concert in Tokyo.
  • The performers were cast as Japanese counterparts to the Oasis lineup. Their resemblance to the real band extends beyond costumes: they reproduce recognizable mannerisms, including Liam's tambourine movements and Noel's guitar-playing posture.
  • Movement director Natricia Bernard studied hours of Oasis footage, analyzing how each member walked, looked, turned, played, and interacted with instruments. Liam Gallagher reportedly approved of the impersonations and was impressed by how convincingly the performers copied the band.
  • The crowd was assembled to look like an audience at an Oasis show in Japan. Extras were instructed to wear loose, mid-1990s-style clothing rather than contemporary fashion.
  • The concept was inspired by the band's unusually strong following in Japan, where Oasis tribute bands had become popular. The video turns that fan culture into an alternate-universe version of the group.
  • A separate promotional video for "Acquiesce" uses live footage from Oasis' performance at Manchester's G-Mex Centre on December 14, 1997. The audio vocals in that version were overdubbed from another performance.
  • "Acquiesce" was originally released as the B-side of "Some Might Say" in 1995, then gained further attention when it appeared on the 1998 compilation album "The Masterplan".
