Synopsis

In a surreal black-and-white fairy tale, Marie Fredriksson plays a queen searching for a husband while Per Gessle appears as a mysterious man living rough in the streets. Their paths cross, leading to a frantic chase involving a stolen boat, serenading ducks, and an unexpected plunge into the water. The eccentric romance eventually becomes a wedding and a life together, shown in fast-moving scenes that follow the couple from newlyweds to parents and finally to old age.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was filmed at several Stockholm-area locations, including Gamla stan, Solna Church, Steninge Castle, and the area outside Stockholm City Hall.
  • Its deliberately rough, monochrome look contrasts sharply with the song's bright electronic production, which marked Roxette's only full move into techno.
  • The video uses the original album version of "Stars," while European radio stations mainly played a shorter remix by production collective Almighty.
  • The song's chorus features a children's choir, and the choir also appears as part of the video's comic visual world.
  • Marie Fredriksson later described the video shoot as a "hilarious experience."
  • The video received its Swedish television premiere on TV4 in July 1999.
