Synopsis

After her car breaks down in the Mojave Desert, Brandy walks along the roadside toward a wedding she is supposed to attend. A passing pickup gives her a ride, but she eventually arrives at a closed gas station and checks into a nearby hotel. From her room, she watches a wedding taking place across the courtyard. Dressed for the occasion, she slips into the celebration unnoticed, then joins the wedding band and performs as the guests gradually disappear.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed in and around Lancaster, California, with additional footage shot in the surrounding Mojave Desert.

• Production took place in April 1999, shortly after "Almost Doesn't Count" was released as the fourth single from Brandy's *Never Say Never* album.

• The desert road, pickup truck, cowboy hat, roadside gas station, and wedding setting reflect the song's country-leaning roots. Songwriters Shelly Peiken and Guy Roche originally approached it with a country sound in mind before Brandy recorded the R&B version.

• Peiken has said that the song was inspired by an on-again, off-again relationship from her college years. She also contributed background vocals to Brandy's recording.

• An alternative version of the video was later included with the home release of *Double Platinum*, the 1999 television film starring Brandy and Diana Ross.

• The song was later recorded by country singer Mark Wills. His version reached No. 19 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in 2000.

• Brandy's video was included on *The Videos*, her first video compilation, released on VHS in 1999 and later issued on DVD in 2000.
