Queen turn domestic routine into high camp in this playful 1984 video. Freddie Mercury appears as a mustachioed housewife vacuuming the floor, while Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon portray other residents of a working-class neighborhood. The sitcom parody then gives way to a surreal underground sequence, with the band surrounded by helmeted figures, before Mercury joins dancers in a dramatic ballet-inspired performance. The video's deliberately absurd shifts in tone make the song's theme of escape feel both comic and theatrical.

• The opening section parodies characters from the long-running British soap opera "Coronation Street." Freddie Mercury plays Bet Lynch, Brian May portrays Hilda Ogden, Roger Taylor appears as Suzie Birchall, and John Deacon takes on Ena Sharples.

• The idea for the soap-opera spoof was reportedly suggested by Roger Taylor's then-girlfriend. Queen had made several grand, effects-heavy videos before this and wanted to show a lighter, more self-mocking side of the band.

• The video's ballet sequence was created with dancers from the Royal Ballet and choreographed by Wayne Eagling. It draws on the imagery of "The Afternoon of a Faun," the famous ballet associated with Vaslav Nijinsky.

• Mercury shaved his trademark mustache for the ballet section, creating a sharp visual contrast with his housewife character.

• The drag humor was immediately understood by British viewers familiar with "Coronation Street," but it did not translate as easily in the United States. MTV declined to give the video regular exposure, and the controversy became one of the most frequently discussed aspects of the clip.
