Synopsis

A feather drifts through the air before the video introduces Forrest Gump, played by Andy Comeau, sitting on a park bench and recounting his improbable life story. The action moves through comic recreations of key moments from the film, including military service, romance, running, and encounters with famous figures. Intercut with the parody are performance scenes featuring "Weird Al" Yankovic and his band, staged in the stripped-down style associated with The Presidents of the United States of America's "Lump" video.

Factoids & Trivia

• "Gump" is a double parody: the song reworks The Presidents of the United States of America's "Lump," while the video spoofs both "Lump" and the 1994 film "Forrest Gump."

• The video was released in 1996, following the March 12 release of "Bad Hair Day." It was the second video made for the album, after "Amish Paradise."

• Andy Comeau portrays Forrest Gump. The cast also includes Pat Boone, Ruth Buzzi, and Samantha Phillips.

• Ruth Buzzi appears as the woman on the park bench who repeatedly strikes Gump with her purse.

• Exterior scenes were filmed at the William Mulholland Memorial Fountain in Los Angeles.

• The video runs for roughly two minutes, matching the song's compact arrangement and keeping its rapid-fire movie recap from becoming overextended.

• "Gump" was included on the home-video release "Bad Hair Day: The Videos" and later appeared in collections of Yankovic's music videos.
