Synopsis

Autolux perform "Turnstile Blues" inside a stark, industrial warehouse, surrounded by strip lighting and banks of vintage CRT monitors. The trio is filmed in fragmented close-ups, severe backlighting, and disorienting angles that make the musicians appear to shift around the space. The monitors display distorted views of the band, sometimes replacing or reshaping parts of the performance, including Carla Azar's drum kit. As the song builds, the imagery becomes increasingly abstract, ending with extreme shots of the screens' glowing dot patterns.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was made in 2004 for "Turnstile Blues," the opening track on Autolux's debut album, *Future Perfect*.
  • Its visual concept contrasts futuristic staging with obsolete television technology. The CRT displays function both as props and as a second layer of the performance, showing warped images of the musicians.
  • The video received exposure on MTV2 during the band's campaign for *Future Perfect*. Contemporary coverage described the album as a cult-level release that had not yet reached a mass audience.
  • "Turnstile Blues" was later remixed by Unkle for the limited-edition *Surrender Sounds Session #4* release in 2007.
  • The song also appeared at the beginning of the 2007 film *The Air I Breathe*, extending its association with moody, cinematic alternative rock beyond the original album.
