Synopsis

The Long Blondes perform amid the controlled chaos of a formal dog show, where pedigree dogs and their handlers navigate agility obstacles, pose for the cameras, and compete for attention. Kate Jackson and the rest of the band take part in the event alongside canine counterparts, turning the setting into a playful alternative to the song's themes of temptation and remorse. The polished competition gradually gives way to comic unpredictability, as the dogs become the video's real stars.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video deliberately avoids a literal treatment of the song's lyrics. The band had reportedly received several straightforward interpretations of "Guilt," so the production team proposed setting the video at a dog show instead.
  • More than 40 pedigree dogs appeared in the production. Many of them came from a local dog-training club, which also supplied handlers and agility equipment.
  • The shoot was organized as a complete dog-show event, rather than simply filming the band around a few animals. The production team even considered including a backstage dog-grooming area, although that material was ultimately dropped from the final edit.
  • Working with so many trained animals created an unpredictable set. One boxer named Tonka reportedly developed stage fright, became ill, and was sent home.
  • Each band member was paired with a dog chosen to reflect a corresponding canine persona. The musicians also took part in the agility-course action.
  • Drummer Screech developed a particularly strong connection with his matching Kerry Blue terrier.
  • "Guilt" was released in 2008 as the second and final single from the album "Couples." The release was issued as a limited-edition 7-inch single and digital download.
