Synopsis
Luke Pritchard wanders through Nambucca nightclub, searching for his girlfriend amid the crowded, chaotic nightlife. As he moves through the venue, memories of their relationship interrupt the present, while she drinks, flirts and disappears into the crowd. The upbeat performance contrasts with the increasingly uncomfortable situation. Eventually, he finds her leaving a bathroom with another man, confirming his suspicions. Rather than confront her, he silently turns away, leaving the relationship unresolved but clearly broken.
Factoids & Trivia
- The video was filmed at Nambucca, a nightclub on Holloway Road in London.
- Luke Pritchard later explained that the video's infidelity storyline came partly from the director's personal experiences, giving the clip a more specific meaning than the song initially had for him.
- The shoot brought many of the band's friends into the nightclub, helping create the crowded, lived-in atmosphere of a real night out rather than a polished studio setting.
- The video helped establish "Naive" as one of The Kooks' defining early songs. Its narrative treatment also reinforced the contrast between the track's bright, catchy sound and its uneasy subject matter.
- The song had originally been written by Pritchard when he was approximately 15 or 16 years old, before The Kooks existed as a band.
