Synopsis
An office worker leaves his desk, and the camera moves into a child's drawing of a yellow JCB carrying a boy and his father. The hand-drawn adventure follows them along the road, where they encounter angry motorists, Transformers, a dinosaur and the A-Team van. As the boy's imagination takes over, the JCB gains wings, an engine and an umbrella before flying into the sky. The video closes with a humorous message from one of the animators.
Factoids & Trivia
- The animated video was created in 2005 and helped turn "JCB Song" from an internet curiosity into Nizlopi's breakthrough hit.
- The central idea reflects Luke Concannon's childhood memories. His father worked as a digger driver, and Concannon has linked the song to his experiences with dyslexia and bullying at school.
- The video was drawn and released online in short 30-second increments while the animation was being completed. This encouraged word-of-mouth sharing at a time when online video platforms were still developing.
- Several animators contributed to the finished piece. David Crawford spent around five hours animating three cows that appear for only a brief moment.
- The Transformers and A-Team references visualize the child's fantasy world, turning an ordinary journey with his father into an action adventure.
- The video was included as an enhanced-CD feature on one of the UK editions of the single.
- Its closing message, "I must never make another animated video again it is a lot of work," became a self-deprecating final joke about the labor involved in producing the clip.
