Synopsis

Rather than presenting a scripted narrative, the "Pink Triangle" video works as an archival montage of Weezer during the Pinkerton era. The band is shown performing onstage, working in the studio, and appearing in candid behind-the-scenes footage. The loose, documentary-style editing places the viewer inside the group's touring and recording world, emphasizing the rawness and immediacy associated with Pinkerton. It functions less as a conventional promotional video than as a time capsule of Weezer's mid-1990s lineup.

Factoids & Trivia

• "Pink Triangle" was released to radio as a promotional single in May 1997, but it received limited airplay and did not receive a conventional, label-funded music video at the time.

• The montage was assembled by longtime Weezer associate Karl Koch for the band's 2004 DVD, "Video Capture Device: Treasures from the Vault 1991-2002." It was later cataloged as a Weezer music video despite being created years after the song's original release.

• The footage was shot by Koch and Jennifer Wilson, the wife of drummer Patrick Wilson. The material includes studio work, footage from the band's 1996 Reading Festival appearance, and performances from the summer of 1997.

• A separate acoustic performance of "Pink Triangle" from Weezer's November 6, 1996, appearance at Shorecrest High School in Seattle was also included on the DVD.

• The song's lyrics were inspired by a woman Rivers Cuomo encountered while studying at Harvard. He interpreted the pink triangle on her clothing as a sign that she was lesbian, only to learn later that she was supporting the gay community rather than identifying as lesbian.

• The video preserves the original Pinkerton-era lineup, including bassist Matt Sharp, who left Weezer in 1998.
