Synopsis

A surreal stop-motion world unfolds from cutout photographs and magazine images. An industrious group of strange characters operates knobs, levers, and other contraptions in an attempt to keep the universe in balance. Their orderly routine gradually gives way to absurd disruptions, including bizarre animal encounters and a flying car. The imagery shifts rapidly between human and animal figures, machinery, and improbable landscapes, matching the track's busy blend of jazz, electronics, and breakbeats. By the end, even the characters seem unsettled by the chaos and abandon the strange scene.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video uses stop-motion animation built from cutouts taken from photographs and magazines, giving it a deliberately handmade, collage-like appearance.

• The imagery has been described as "Monty Python-on-safari," an apt shorthand for its mixture of eccentric characters, animals, visual absurdity, and deadpan humor.

• A flying car appears among the video's surreal visual inventions.

• The video was included as a QuickTime extra with the CD edition of Jaga Jazzist's *A Livingroom Hush*.

• "Animal Chin" was released on *A Livingroom Hush* in 2002 and later became the title track of the band's first American EP, issued by Gold Standard Laboratories in 2003.

• The track runs for just over four minutes, while the video was also preserved on Ninja Tune's *ZEN TV DVD - Video Retrospective*, released in 2004.

• The song is credited to Lars Horntveth, while the arrangement involves Andreas Mjos, Jorgen Traeen, Lars Horntveth, and Martin Horntveth.

• The video is notable within Jaga Jazzist's catalog for translating the band's densely layered instrumental music into a visual language based on constant motion, collage, and controlled disorder.
