Synopsis

McFly perform "5 Colours In Her Hair" across a series of deliberately cheesy television-style sets, including a beach, a road, a colorful stage and a club. The central character, played by Molly Portsmouth, lives in a mostly black-and-white home where her brightly colored hair and television are the only vivid elements. After her family disrupts her enjoyment of the band's performance, McFly arrive to bring color and energy into the house. She eventually joins them on television, escaping her dull surroundings for a lively performance with the band and their fans.

• The video was filmed just after Christmas 2003, before McFly released the song as their debut single in March 2004.

• Much of the video was filmed in front of a green screen, allowing the band to appear in exaggerated settings and jump into and out of the television.

• Molly Portsmouth plays the girl in the title. The selective use of color makes her and her surroundings stand out from the otherwise monochrome household.

• The opening introduces the band in the style of a television show, but Danny Jones and Dougie Poynter are initially given each other's names.

• The video includes visual nods to two of McFly's major influences: The Beatles and The Beach Boys.

• Channel 4's Popworld recorded an interview with McFly and behind-the-scenes footage during the video's production.

• The song's central character was inspired by Suzanne "Sooz" Lee, played by Emily Corrie in the British television drama As If.

• Studio chatter from the recording session is heard after the song finishes, reinforcing the band's intentionally playful and self-mocking image.
