Synopsis

On a rain-soaked football field, Courtney Love appears with bright blue hair and a matching dress as players from Any Given Sunday move through the game around her. Rather than showing Hole performing, the video places Love at the center of the action, where she confronts, flirts with, and kisses the athletes. The clash between the aggressive football setting and her theatrical presence gives the clip a provocative, surreal quality, while the storm gradually turns the field into a dark, unruly stage.

Factoids & Trivia

• "Be a Man" was recorded during sessions for Hole's Celebrity Skin, but the band left it off that album because they felt it did not fit the rest of the material.

• The song was later used on the soundtrack to Oliver Stone's 1999 football film Any Given Sunday and released as a single in early 2000.

• Courtney Love, Eric Erlandson, and Billy Corgan are credited as the song's writers. Corgan's involvement reflects his long creative association with Love and Hole.

• The video uses football players and imagery connected to Any Given Sunday rather than presenting a conventional performance by the band.

• It was the first Hole video not to feature guitarist Eric Erlandson. At the time, he was the only other remaining member of the band's classic lineup besides Love.
