Synopsis

"BREEDLE" has no conventional narrative. Instead, the video takes the viewer on a synthetic flight through an ever-changing fractal landscape. Recursive forms grow, fold, dissolve, and mutate as the virtual camera moves through dense organic and inorganic structures. Surfaces shift from strange, biological-looking shapes to immense geometric environments, with simulated depth-of-field effects giving the computer-generated imagery a tactile, almost photographic quality. The visuals are edited in close synchronization with Extrawelt's hypnotic electronic track, creating an immersive audiovisual journey.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was released in 2013 to accompany "Breedle," the opening track on Extrawelt's three-track EP "The Inkling," released by Traum Schallplatten.

• Its imagery was generated by manipulating the Mandelbrot fractal formula in three dimensions. The resulting forms are closer to an evolving digital ecosystem than to traditional animation.

• The production took four months of formula experimentation and more than 1,000 combined rendering hours.

• Open-source and experimental tools were central to the workflow. The production process involved open-source raytracers alongside programs and frameworks including Mandelbulb3D, Mandelbulber, Structure Synthesizer, Processing, and vvvv.

• Simulated Z-depth passes were used to create extreme depth-of-field effects. This gives some shots the appearance of macro photography, despite their entirely computer-generated origins.

• "Breedle" was paired with a separate video for "The Inkling," the EP's title track. The two videos were presented as companion pieces rather than as unrelated promotional clips.

• The video received a Vimeo Staff Pick and was also featured in motion-design and audiovisual-art showcases, helping it reach audiences beyond the usual electronic-music audience.
