Synopsis

A solitary hermit lives in a cluttered house surrounded by female mannequins, treating them as companions, family, or possibly a harem. His carefully arranged domestic routine gradually becomes more unsettling as suspicion and paranoia take hold. What begins as an eccentric portrait of a man managing life in isolation turns into a tragic-comic study of loneliness, unstable companionship, and the thin boundary between imagination and reality. The video's deliberately sparse setting reinforces the song's question of how to cope when left entirely on your own.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was made over one weekend in May 2010 by a three-person production team: Ben Reed, cinematographer Nic Booth, and actor Ioan Gwyn.

• Ioan Gwyn plays the isolated central character, while the mannequins serve as his only visible companions.

• The production took place during an exceptionally hot and bright weekend. The crew reportedly had to keep moving around the house to stay ahead of the sunlight.

• Much of the set dressing came from Ben Reed's own belongings. The clutter became so dense that the crew used a special drawer to keep track of small but important equipment and personal items.

• The video accompanied the release of "On Your Own" as a single in June 2010, shortly before James Yuill's album "Movement in a Storm."
