Ringo Deathstarr - Rip

Music Video

Wiki

Synopsis

The video begins with Ringo Deathstarr enjoying an apparently ordinary morning, complete with sugary cereal and the relaxed atmosphere of a Saturday breakfast. Once the band members put on 3D glasses, their surroundings shift into a disorienting neon world of visual static and warped perception. The altered state quickly turns mischievous and chaotic as they move through Austin spaces, invade local businesses and backyards, and behave as though the entire city has become part of their psychedelic playground. The surreal imagery mirrors the song's contrast between sweet vocals and abrasive shoegaze distortion.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Rip" was released as the lead single from Ringo Deathstarr's second album, "Mauve," in September 2012. The album followed the band's acclaimed 2011 debut, "Colour Trip."
  • The clip's central visual joke is the apparent danger of 3D glasses: what begins as a novelty quickly becomes a full-blown hallucinatory experience.
  • The video plays up a deliberately homemade, punkish sense of mischief rather than presenting a polished performance narrative. Cereal, television-like snow, bright colors, and guerrilla-style appearances in outdoor locations give it the feel of a sugar-fueled low-budget fantasy.
  • The song's noisy guitars and soft, breathy vocals are reflected in the video's collision of cute breakfast imagery with aggressive, distorted visuals.
  • The official upload credits Cassandra Hamilton with the video.
  • The track was also issued as a two-song single with "Scene," through Club AC30.
