Sia - Clap Your Hands

Music Video

Wiki

Synopsis

Sia appears as a collection of brightly colored puppet-like creatures, each carrying a stylized version of her face. Set against a stark black backdrop, the characters bounce, twist, gesture and sing along to the song's upbeat message about dancing, romance and making the most of life. The surreal cast gradually fills the frame, creating a playful, handmade-looking spectacle that feels part pop performance, part psychedelic puppet show.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was released in 2010 as the visual companion to "Clap Your Hands," the second single from Sia's album "We Are Born."
  • Sia was reportedly unhappy with an earlier version of the video, which featured Bollywood dancing, and commissioned a replacement.
  • The replacement concept featured Sia transformed into a variety of puppet characters. The idea was reportedly developed during a flight to the shoot.
  • Despite its elaborate appearance, the video was filmed in Sia's New York apartment.
  • The creatures were described in contemporary coverage as neon, Jim Henson-inspired figures, combining deliberately artificial costumes with Sia's recognizable face.
  • The video won Best Video at the 2010 ARIA Music Awards and was also nominated for Single of the Year.
