Wiki

Synopsis

SSION moves through a bizarre, sensual house party where guests appear absorbed in their own private worlds. The host encounters bodies, costumes, food, fish, and flashes of intimacy, yet remains largely unseen or ignored. The setting shifts between uncomfortable heat, dampness, and chill, creating the feeling of wandering through a sex club without ever finding genuine connection. Near the end, a dramatic removal of the singer's wig exposes his shaved head and face beneath deliberately overblown pop-star lighting.

Factoids & Trivia

  • Cody Critcheloe described the song as being inspired by a sex club where everything is dark and visitors must feel their way around. He framed the video around the idea of entering a house full of self-absorbed people who barely notice the newcomer.
  • The video was shot in Kansas City, on the first floor of artist Jaimie Warren's house. Peggy Noland had previously lived there.
  • Critcheloe said the production was made for almost no money. Props came from Walmart and Home Depot, and the team returned everything afterward, including a fish and opened fish food.
  • Critcheloe shaved his head specifically for the video. The wig removal was intended as a theatrical reveal, with the exposed face appearing under deliberately excessive, blown-out pop-star lighting.
  • Critcheloe's real-life boyfriend, Raul, appears in the video.
  • The clip formed part of a larger visual project surrounding the album "Bent." Critcheloe planned videos for every song and said the videos were intentionally beginning to connect as a narrative.
  • "My Love Grows in the Dark" was one of several "Bent" videos that helped establish SSION as a multimedia pop project rather than simply a recording act. The album's visual campaign also included clips for "Earthquake," "Psy-Chic," "Luvvbazaar," and "High."
