Synopsis

I/O moves through a fractured, dreamlike world shaped by regret and emotional turmoil. Falling clocks, bruised knuckles, unsettling encounters and the presence of a disturbing companion create the sense that time itself has become an antagonist. Rather than presenting a straightforward breakup narrative, the video shifts between surreal images and moments of confrontation, leaving the viewer to decide whether I/O is battling time, his memories or his own destructive impulses. The disorienting visuals mirror the song's central idea that time is both wasted and ultimately illusory.

Factoids & Trivia

• "Wasted My Time" appeared on I/O's 2012 mixtape "Isolation." The video arrived in April 2013 as a visual revisit of the project.

• The production grew out of a personal connection between I/O and the filmmaking team. They had wanted to collaborate for some time before the project finally came together.

• The filmmakers aimed for a more narrative and less effects-driven approach than in some of their earlier work, while still structuring the video in a deliberately nonlinear way.

• With no label-funded budget behind the project, the production was financed directly by the people involved. The filmmakers sold their DSLRs, while I/O contributed money from selling his Rebel T2i camera.

• The video was shot with a Red Epic and Zeiss Master Prime lenses over three very cold days on Long Island.

• The cast includes I/O, brothers Dylan and Aidan Wightman, and Doug Klinger. Klinger also assisted with the production and behind-the-scenes work.

• I/O produced the video together with the filmmaking team, and the team handled the post-production as well.

• The clip was recognized in contemporary coverage for its deliberately strange, mesmerizing visual style and its refusal to explain its symbolism in conventional terms.
