Synopsis
A stylized performance video frames "Bang Bang" as the story of Tony, a troubled boy whose difficult childhood, absent father, and growing anger push him toward crime. As Tony grows into a young man, his path brings him into conflict with the police, ending in a fatal confrontation. Mani and the band appear within the dramatic presentation, while graphic imagery and brisk editing give the clip a heightened, almost comic-book quality that matches the song's pop-rock energy.
Factoids & Trivia
- "Bang Bang" was released in 2011 as the lead single from Mani's debut project and later appeared on the album "Heroes of Today," issued in January 2012.
- The song was inspired by the life of Antoine Le Guern, known within the group as My-T. Mani Hoffman said he wrote the lyrics about his bandmate after hearing a new composition Le Guern had sent him.
- The recording was issued in both English and French versions. The English version became the main international release, while the French version retained the song's narrative in its original language.
- The video was produced by the French company Affreux, Sales & Mechants. Its production credits also list cinematographer Mahdi Lepart and graphic designers Stephane Lamalle, Florian Fusy, and Shu Yamamoto.
- The original "Bang Bang" EP included the title track, "Face The Music," and six remixes. Contributors included Jamaica, Tiery F, Beat Torrent, Golf, Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya, and Penguin Prison.
- The release was connected to My Major Company, the participatory label that helped finance the project. Contemporary coverage reported that 780 producers supported the record.
- "Bang Bang" helped establish Mani's hybrid sound, combining pop, rock, soul, and electronic influences rather than following the French house style associated with Hoffman's earlier work.
- The song later reached audiences beyond France, including Japan, where Mani's music gained a notable following and "Bang Bang" was used in a Samsung Galaxy advertising campaign.
