Synopsis

Set in a desolate, post-apocalyptic world, the video follows Ramta as he moves through the ruins of a vanished civilization while strange mutants emerge around him. The abandoned buildings, barren landscapes, costumes and makeup create the feel of a homemade science-fiction horror film. Rather than presenting a conventional performance clip, "Dia de los Muertos" builds a small mythology from images of survival, menace and transformation, matching the song's darkly celebratory vision of catastrophe and the end of the world.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed between August and November 2009 at Lago Epecuen in Carhue and Ferroclub Tolosa in La Plata. The ruined resort town of Epecuen provides much of the clip's striking post-apocalyptic atmosphere.

• The production was shot with a Nikon D90, a relatively modest camera choice that fits the video's deliberately rough, independent, B-movie aesthetic.

• The band supplied the idea, screenplay and character designs. The project was conceived as more than a promotional performance piece, with the members actively shaping its fictional world.

• Hector Bordoni plays Ramta. The mutant characters are performed by Guillermo Ruiz Diaz, Manuel Sanchez Viamonte, Agustin Spassoff, Juan Bava, German Greco and Shaman Herrera.

• Makeup, special effects, costumes and production design are central to the video's identity. The credits list dedicated teams for makeup and FX, art direction, wardrobe, visual effects and color work.

• Although the song first appeared on the 2008 EP "Dia de los muertos," the official video followed in 2010. The EP completes the band's conceptual trilogy about birth, life and death.

• The clip was screened at the fifth FESAALP, the Festival of Audiovisual Arts of La Plata, on September 13, 2010.

• In a later interview, the band described "Dia de los Muertos" as having the spirit of a B-movie short film. They also noted that two of their videos were made with unusually strong involvement from the band in the writing and filming process.
