Synopsis

The video follows Balteazeen, the so-called Christ Twin from High on Fire's De Vermis Mysteriis mythology. Riding through a nightmarish landscape of highways, portals, violence and occult imagery, he searches for answers about his existence while being pursued through the slaughterhouse of time. His journey leads him to the Oracle of Green, a mysterious four-armed figure whose encounter with Balteazeen becomes both erotic and fatal. The clip ends in a surreal cycle of death, revelation and transformation that mirrors the song's apocalyptic intensity.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video expands on the time-traveling mythology running through De Vermis Mysteriis. The album's central figure inhabits different bodies across history, while Balteazeen is presented as the twin who sacrificed himself so Jesus could live.

• High on Fire vocalist and guitarist Matt Pike said he explained the song's story over the phone, after which the visual treatment was developed from that concept.

• The production combines live-action performances with rotoscoped animation and heavily processed photographic backgrounds. The approach was inspired in part by Ralph Bakshi's rotoscoping techniques.

• The visual effects were built largely with Photoshop and After Effects, allowing the production to create elaborate science-fiction and fantasy scenes on a limited music-video budget.

• Actor James Frey plays Balteazeen. The cast also includes Sara Noah as the Oracle of Green and Ian MacKay in several roles.

• The video became a notable calling card for the production team behind it. Phil Mucci later said that Metallica cited "Fertile Green" as one of the videos they liked when approaching him about "Spit Out the Bone."
