Synopsis

An elderly man named Brent moves through a nocturnal city, propelled by the music and the glow of his illuminated shoes. He dances alone through smoky streets while flashes of colored light, laser effects, cigarette embers, and a mysterious young woman create a surreal after-hours atmosphere. The video turns a solitary nighttime wander into a playful, dreamlike celebration of movement, nightlife, and the strange energy that appears once the city has gone dark.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was released in August 2013, several months after "Night Is On My Mind" appeared on Oliver's *Mechanical* EP, released by Fool's Gold Records in January 2013.

• "Night Is On My Mind" was Oliver's first video made with an outside filmmaking team. Vaughn Oliver had edited the duo's earlier "MYB" video himself using collected online footage, while the band collaborated on the concept for this production.

• In a 2013 interview, Oliver said the filmmaking process moved quickly: after a couple of meetings, the duo received a finished version roughly a week later.

• Brent is played by Bill Corry, while Emily Shephard appears as the dancer.

• The production used Walter Pictures, with post-production work involving Whitehouse Post and visual-effects work from The Mill.

• Oliver's illuminated footwear became one of the video's most recognizable visual details. When asked whether the shoes would appear in the duo's live show, Oliver Goldstein joked that they might, but made no firm promise.
