Synopsis

An ever-changing stream of hand-drawn figures, faces and body parts moves through a feverish visual landscape. Forms stretch, split, melt and morph in time with the track, while mouths and expressions provide a recurring human anchor amid the chaos. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the promo turns the song's instruction to release control into a surreal animation experience: a rapid sequence of transformations that grows increasingly strange, colorful and hypnotic as the music builds.

Factoids & Trivia

• "Let Go" features Chicago techno artist Green Velvet on vocals and was released in 2010 as part of The Japanese Popstars' *Controlling Your Allegiance* era.

• The video was created during an intensive 20-day production period in September 2010.

• Its animation combines traditional hand-drawn work, Flash animation and After Effects compositing rather than relying on a single technique.

• Illustrator and singer-songwriter Keaton Henson provided the primary illustrations. The project marked the beginning of a creative relationship with the animation team that later led to Henson's "Charon" video.

• Malcolm Draper, whose animation credits include *Yellow Submarine*, *Pink Floyd's The Wall* and *The Smurfs*, was brought out of retirement to create the video's lipsync animation.

• The production involved a large team of animators, illustrators, compositors and colorists working through Colonel Blimp for Virgin Records/EMI.

• The video won Best Animated Video at the 2010 Antville Music Video Awards and was later included in the 2011 Creative Review Annual.
