Synopsis

Two women face off in a tense ping-pong match staged before a watchful audience. The rally initially appears ordinary, but the ball is revealed to be a live hand grenade. As the players keep returning it across the table, the contest becomes a grim exercise in nerve, timing, and survival. The increasingly frantic exchange ends in a bloody, unavoidable climax, turning a familiar sporting ritual into a darkly comic spectacle of suspense and violence.

• "Bastard" was released through Skint Records in 2009 as part of Metal on Metal's "Damn" EP.

• The video runs for approximately 3 minutes and 34 seconds.

• The production was handled by Revolver, with visual-effects work involving The Glue Society and Fuel VFX.

• The grenade was created as a CG replacement for a ping-pong ball. The visual-effects team kept the grenade intact rather than using the familiar movie convention in which the safety lever flies away.

• Because a real hand grenade would be much heavier than a ping-pong ball, the players had to sell the weight of the object while still keeping its movement visually dynamic.

• The shoot used a Photon high-speed HD camera capable of recording at up to 1,000 frames per second. Its recording drive could hold only a few minutes of footage and then required about 30 minutes to empty.

• The live-action shoot lasted eight hours, while the post-production schedule took approximately one month.

• The production team said the limited budget made it impractical to show a person actually exploding, so the action was designed and edited to make the aftermath appear gory and believable.
