Wiki

Synopsis

The video unfolds inside a dim mansion during a masked gathering. JAW appears as himself, while Claptone presides over a chess game in his signature golden beak mask. A mysterious woman and a shadowy figure move through the rooms, creating an atmosphere of secrecy and unease. As the night progresses, the guests' disguises and deliberate movements turn the setting into a surreal ritual, echoing the song's themes of loneliness, desire and the difficulty of making a genuine connection.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "No Eyes" was released in 2013 through Exploited Records, with the audiovisual recording later licensed to Parlophone Music Belgium.
  • The video's mansion setting and masked gathering deliberately recall Stanley Kubrick's 1999 film "Eyes Wide Shut." Contemporary coverage highlighted the resemblance in both the imagery and the measured, unsettling camerawork.
  • The production credits identify Gerald Acourt as director of photography and Aude-Jeanne Malinvaud as line producer. Arpel Films handled the production.
  • The visual separates the performers into distinct roles: JAW appears as himself, Claptone is presented as the chess master, Sand Van Roy plays the revealed woman, and Jules Audry appears as the shadowy figure.
  • The song's lyrics were written by Jonathan Illel, while Claptone produced the house track. JAW was already known as part of the French electronic group dOP.
  • "No Eyes" became one of the tracks that established Claptone's early identity: a mysterious masked figure paired with deep house, warm vocals and a distinctly melancholic mood.
  • The single was accompanied by remixes from Art Department, Kyodai, Doctor Dru, Bakermat and Mickey, helping extend the track's presence beyond the original club version.
