Synopsis

Space Siren's "This Radar" is paired with an unusual 8mm film assembled from footage recorded around three decades earlier. Rather than showing the band performing, the video follows the Menken Landbouw agricultural crew from Noordwijkerhout in a playful, rough-edged portrait filled with beards, mustaches, machinery, steel and deadpan humor. The homespun images give the track an unexpected visual identity, turning ordinary working life and old-fashioned camaraderie into a memorable piece of music-video imagery.

Factoids & Trivia

• The footage was shot on 8mm by the mother of one of Space Siren's members, while the member's father filmed from a bicycle.

• The video's featured performers are members of the Menken Landbouw team from Noordwijkerhout in the Netherlands.

• Its deliberately homemade look sets it apart from the band's later, more formally produced clips, including animated videos such as "Who Makes Me Try?" and "wehavemetthedaylightbefore."

• "This Radar" was released on Space Siren's Double 7" in May 2010 through Subroutine Records and Katzwijm Records. The record also included "(Wrong)," "wehavemetthedaylightbefore" and "The Next Room."

• The song was later selected for the 2011 Popronde compilation CD, placing it alongside tracks by emerging Dutch acts presented through the national touring festival.

• Space Siren's story ended prematurely after guitarist and producer Corno Zwetsloot became seriously ill. The band released further material after the song, but "This Radar" remains part of the group's early recorded legacy.
