The Bloody Beetroots - ROMBORAMA

Music Video

Wiki

Synopsis

A masked figure occupies a stark, warehouse-like setting while the image fractures into a barrage of scratched film, hand-worked marks, graphic overlays, and abrupt bursts of color. The video treats the performer, the toilet, and the surrounding space as raw material for an aggressive piece of experimental animation. Rather than following a conventional storyline, it moves by visual collision and rhythmic repetition, matching The Bloody Beetroots' abrasive electro with a deliberately handmade, surreal barrage of images.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was created on 35mm film rather than assembled entirely through digital effects. Its official credits identify Kodak film and a Univisium 1:2 aspect ratio.
  • Around 15,000 frames were worked on individually using several techniques, including scratching, coloring, fire, and Letraset transfers.
  • The film was produced over approximately two and a half months. The frame-by-frame process required long overnight work sessions, with the filmmaker reporting that roughly 100 frames could be completed in one night.
  • The production used a single 11-minute reel with 12 cuts. A 35mm camera was borrowed, and the film was recovered and processed at virtually no cost.
  • The imagery was developed largely through instinct rather than a prearranged shooting plan. The video was already being made before The Bloody Beetroots had fully discussed the project with its creator.
  • The finished video unexpectedly echoed the artwork for the Romborama album, created by Italian artist Tanino Liberatore. Both works feature a masked figure seated on a toilet.
  • The visual style grew out of earlier experiments with Super 8 film, stop-motion, and physically altering film stock. The creator described Romborama as a culmination of roughly ten years of technical study.
