Synopsis

Set in the suburbs of Bucharest, "Lowlands" follows a boy pushed into illegal street fighting by his father, who sees the bouts as a way to make money. The boy gradually becomes a successful fighter, but his victories come at a serious personal cost. The harsh coming-of-age drama explores parental pressure, obedience and the damage caused when a child is forced to fulfill an adult's ambitions. Its stark setting and restrained visual style reinforce the song's themes of emotional conflict and broken expectations.
