Synopsis

A young boy wanders from his bedroom to the aquarium mounted on his wall, where the fish suddenly come alive. Fatlip appears as a rapping piranha named Fatlip, introducing his friend Sammy the Salmon and a beatboxing pufferfish. As the aquarium becomes a stage, the fish perform synchronized formations and demonstrate their aquatic dance moves. The boy watches in delighted disbelief, while the watery spectacle eventually spreads beyond the tank, transforming the outside world into a surreal, moonlit underwater fantasy.

Factoids & Trivia

• The boy is played by British actor Rory Jennings, known in the UK for his role in the soap opera "EastEnders."

• Fatlip provides the voice of the rapping piranha. His vocal performance also supplies the song's spoken salmon facts and dance instructions.

• "Sammy the Salmon" is not actually a salmon. The character was created from a squirrelfish, a tropical marine fish.

• The aquarium's cast also includes a beatboxing pufferfish, a lionfish, seahorses, butterflyfish, angelfish and tangs.

• Framestore CFC handled the computer-generated fish work, making the aquarium's synchronized choreography possible.

• The promotional campaign invited fans to upload their own versions of the "Salmon Dance." A YouTube group formed within hours of the single's release, and numerous homemade interpretations followed.

• The video was added to music-video promotion outlets on September 4, 2007, shortly before the single's September 10 release.

• The song appears on the Chemical Brothers' 2007 album "We Are the Night" and features Fatlip, formerly of The Pharcyde.
