Synopsis

Tame Impala perform amid a constantly mutating psychedelic collage. Live-action images of the band are stretched, duplicated, colorized, and folded into hand-drawn figures, distorted faces, painted textures, and abstract shapes. The imagery moves in step with the song's shifts between pounding garage-rock energy and slower, hazier passages, creating the sensation of watching a handmade fever dream unfold. Rather than following a narrative, the video turns the musicians and their performance into raw visual material for an increasingly kaleidoscopic trip.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was made for Tame Impala's self-titled 2008 EP and was created by New Zealand creative studio Special Problems.

• Special Problems approached the brief as an abstract, psychedelic graphic animation, while deliberately avoiding an overly polished digital look. The production combined photocopies, ink, paint, cardboard, magazine material, plasticine, still photography, and After Effects.

• The live-action material was shot in a single day, and the finished video was delivered two weeks later. It runs for approximately four minutes and 28 seconds.

• The video was shot on MiniDV. An archival production note also mentions "projection bombing in LA," indicating that projected imagery formed part of the visual process.

• The production was associated with Pulse Films, with additional animation and illustration credited to Peter Brandt.

• "Half Full Glass of Wine" reached No. 75 in the 2008 Triple J Hottest 100, giving the early Tame Impala track an important Australian audience milestone.

• The song later appeared over the end credits of the HBO series "Entourage," in season 7, episode 3, broadcast on July 18, 2010.
