Synopsis

The video takes a darker, more intense turn for The Coronas, moving away from the band's usual upbeat presentation. A young woman prepares herself in close-up, using a silver Zippo lighter as a makeshift mirror before lighting a cigarette. Her uneasy, self-destructive behavior is intercut with performance footage of the band, creating a tense visual contrast with the song's reassuring message of loyalty and support. The result is a moody portrait of someone in trouble, surrounded by an atmosphere of restless nights and questionable choices.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Won't Leave You Alone" was released as the fourth single from The Coronas' second studio album, "Tony Was an Ex-Con." The album came out on September 25, 2009, while the single was announced for digital release on October 29, 2010.
  • The official video was produced by Tidal.
  • The Coronas deliberately opted for a darker visual approach than in their earlier videos. In a 2010 interview, Danny O'Reilly said the band gave the filmmaker considerable freedom and described the finished clip as something different for the group.
  • The smoking imagery attracted attention because it showed the female character applying makeup with a silver Zippo as a mirror before lighting a cigarette. O'Reilly jokingly compared the video's controversial edge to The Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up," while acknowledging that The Coronas' version was far less extreme.
  • The song's lyrics focus on standing by a troubled friend, offering companionship rather than perfect advice. That supportive theme creates an intentional contrast with the video's more troubling imagery.
  • The track runs for approximately four minutes and was written by Danny O'Reilly, Conor Egan, Graham Knox and Dave McPhillips.
