The Coronas - Heroes or Ghosts

Music Video | Ireland | 2007

Wiki

Synopsis

The Coronas perform against a series of atmospheric, dreamlike images centered on a couple whose bodies appear to drift and float through their surroundings. The unusual visual treatment gives the video a weightless, almost ghostly quality, while close-ups and performance footage keep the band at the center of the song. Rather than following a literal storyline, the video uses suspended movement and quiet, emotionally charged imagery to reflect the song's uncertainty, romantic tension, and questioning mood.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was made while The Coronas were still an emerging Irish band, during the period surrounding their 2007 debut album.
  • A behind-the-scenes recording of the production was later rediscovered and shared by a member of the original filmmaking team. The footage recalled the shoot as an unusually early professional opportunity for a young crew member.
  • The video's floating couple became one of its most recognizable images. The scene was later featured in an Irish music-video quiz published by The Daily Edge.
  • "Heroes or Ghosts" is the title track of The Coronas' debut album, released in October 2007. The single reached No. 24 on the Irish singles chart.
  • The song was later recorded in Irish as "Taibhsí no Laoich" for the compilation album Ceol '08.
  • The track became one of the band's enduring live songs. It has appeared in nearly every phase of their concert history, including the 2019 live album Live at the Olympia, where the audience takes over much of the vocal.
