Jamie Woon - Lady Luck

Wiki

Synopsis

Jamie Woon performs "Lady Luck" while moving through Budapest on trams, metro trains, and in a taxi. His intimate lip-synced performance is set against passing passengers, stations, streets, traffic, and glimpses of the city's distinctive architecture. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the video turns public transportation into a constantly shifting stage, matching the song's looping vocal phrases with a restless journey through the city. The result is a fast-moving urban portrait with Woon at its center.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was filmed in Budapest, using the city's trams and old Russian-designed metro trains as major locations. Street scenes and traffic broaden the visual portrait of the city.
  • The shoot was carried out covertly with a discreet Canon 5D camera rig. The production team wanted to work unobtrusively on public transportation and avoid being stopped by local authorities.
  • The production was made by The SRK, with Ryo Sanada producing, Tom Swindell handling the camera work, and iloobia editing.
  • Woon had already appeared in a separate, informal "Lady Luck" video filmed in Cambodia. That version shows him singing a cappella from a canoe in a swamp and was made while he was visiting the country on vacation.
  • The Cambodian performance was created because Woon had none of his recording equipment with him. He and a local filmmaker chose to make the piece a cappella, with Woon later describing it as being more about the location than the song.
  • "Lady Luck" was the second single from Woon's 2011 debut album, "Mirrorwriting." The song itself was written in the countryside during the album's extended writing process.
