Jamie Woon - Night Air

Music Video
ArtistJamie Woon

Wiki

Synopsis

Jamie Woon moves alone through a shadowy forest after dark, surrounded by dense foliage and an atmosphere of quiet unease. The video alternates between his solitary nighttime walk and extreme close-ups of insects concealed among the plants. Praying mantises, jungle nymphs and other creatures gradually emerge from the darkness, making the natural world feel mysterious and almost dreamlike. With its slow revelations, dim lighting and minimal narrative, the clip transforms the song's nocturnal mood into a haunting study of life awakening after sunset.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video's concept was built around "things that come alive at night." Its naturalistic approach was intended to complement the song rather than compete with it through a complicated storyline.
  • The production used exotic insects, including praying mantises and jungle nymphs, which were placed within a forest setting and revealed gradually.
  • Jamie Woon said he wanted the lyrics and atmosphere to speak for themselves, while also accepting that the video would probably include the familiar image of him looking moody and walking alone at night.
  • The clip appeared in November 2010, shortly after "Night Air" was released as the lead single from Woon's debut album, "Mirrorwriting."
  • Although Burial is associated with the track, Woon later explained that Burial's contribution came from percussion fragments and sounds left over from an earlier, abandoned session. Woon rebuilt the arrangement and described Burial's role as additional production rather than full control of the song.
  • The video's insect imagery gives a visual form to the track's blend of intimacy, darkness and subtle movement, while keeping Woon's performance deliberately restrained.
