Rhye - The Fall

Music Video

Wiki

Synopsis

At a dinner party, a middle-aged husband watches his younger wife move through the evening, but his attention keeps drifting toward memories of their earlier relationship. Flashbacks show the couple in a freer, more playful stage, including an encounter with a much younger woman that exposes his restlessness and dissatisfaction. The present-day marriage grows increasingly tense as fantasy and memory overlap. In the final moments, he leaves the car, abandoning the expected route home and choosing a bicycle ride instead.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video premiered in October 2012, shortly before "The Fall" appeared on Rhye's EP of the same name. The song was later included on the debut album "Woman," released in 2013.
  • Carsten Bjornlund, Marijana Jankovic, and Marie Boda form the video's central cast. Rather than featuring Rhye, the film uses actors to present the song as a compact relationship drama.
  • The production was a Danish-UK collaboration between Spoiled Productions and Black Dog. It was filmed on an Arri Alexa, with cinematography by Sophia Olsson, editing by Carla Luffe, and color grading and visual effects by Daniel de Vue.
  • Mike Milosh described the videos for "The Fall" and "Open" as visual interpretations of passionate conversations he had about what he wanted the songs to communicate. He also said the two productions together cost $75,000.
  • The video's understated treatment helped establish an early Rhye visual style built around intimacy, ambiguity, and cinematic storytelling rather than conventional performance footage.
  • A separate live version of "The Fall" was released with retro Super 8-style footage, giving the song a more openly nostalgic visual treatment than the narrative film.
  • The video received second place in the music-video category at the 2013 Young Director Awards.
