Synopsis

TQ's "The Comeback" follows a wounded man recovering at his mother's home after a shooting leaves his pregnant girlfriend and unborn children dead. Still limping from his injuries, he becomes consumed by revenge and tracks the shooter back to his own neighborhood. The confrontation ends in another burst of violence, but the aftermath forces him to confront the possibility that an innocent child may have been caught in the crossfire. Kurupt and Daz Dillinger contribute to the song's hard-edged West Coast perspective.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The song appears on TQ's 1998 debut album, "They Never Saw Me Coming," and features Daz Dillinger and Kurupt.
  • TQ explained in a 2004 interview that "The Comeback" tells the other side of the same real-life story behind "Bye Bye Baby." The first song presents the shooting, while "The Comeback" focuses on the retaliation that follows.
  • The track reflects the "Reality R&B" approach associated with TQ's early solo work, combining melodic singing with a stark street narrative.
  • The video's violent storyline is closely tied to the song's lyrics rather than functioning as a conventional romantic or performance-focused R&B clip.
  • "The Comeback" was released during TQ's initial solo breakthrough, following his earlier work with the group Coming of Age.
