Synopsis

A lonely doctor and an architect begin exchanging letters through the mailbox of a glass lake house, discovering that they are separated by two years in time. As their correspondence deepens into love, Kate and Alex search for a way to meet in the same moment while confronting the consequences of changing events that have already happened.

• The film is an American remake of the 2000 South Korean romantic fantasy film Il Mare, whose title refers to the seaside house at the center of that story.

• American playwright David Auburn adapted the screenplay for the remake.

• Although the story takes place in Chicago, the lake house scenes were filmed at Maple Lake in Palos Hills, Illinois. Other locations included Riverside, Roosevelt University, and the Green Mill in Chicago.

• Filming took place from March 14 through May 29, 2005.

• The production had an estimated budget of $40 million and earned approximately $114.8 million worldwide.
