Synopsis

In the Bahamas, diver Jared and his girlfriend Sam hope to find a legendary shipwreck and improve their modest life. Their plans change when they discover both a historic wreck and a crashed aircraft carrying cocaine. Joined by Jared's friend Bryce and his new girlfriend Amanda, the group becomes entangled with criminals while deciding whether the promise of easy money is worth the danger.

• Principal photography took place from January 15 to March 28, 2004, with filming in the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, and Florida.

• Much of the diving material was filmed with assistance from Stuart Cove's Dive Bahamas. The company's boats, crews, and local knowledge were used for underwater and shark-related sequences.

• Paul Walker's own Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Boone, appears as Jared's dog.

• The production used digital work to extend Jessica Alba's bikini in the American release. The European version retained the original presentation.

• The film was made for an estimated $50 million and earned approximately $46.1 million worldwide.

• A direct-to-DVD sequel, Into the Blue 2: The Reef, was released in 2009 with an entirely new principal cast.
