Justin Drew Bieber (born March 1, 1994) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and musician from London, Ontario, who grew up in Stratford. He became one of the defining pop stars of the 2010s after building an audience through homemade performance videos on YouTube. His rapid rise helped establish a new model for discovering and promoting young artists through online platforms.

Talent manager Scooter Braun discovered Bieber's videos in 2007 and introduced him to singer Usher. Bieber subsequently signed with Raymond Braun Media Group and Island Records. His debut extended play, My World (2009), presented him as a youthful pop and R&B performer. Songs such as "One Time," "One Less Lonely Girl," and "Love Me" gave him an immediate international profile, while his clean-cut image and direct connection with fans helped create the phenomenon commonly known as "Bieber Fever."

His first full-length album, My World 2.0 (2010), reached number one on the US Billboard 200. Its lead single, "Baby," featuring Ludacris, became one of his signature recordings and introduced Bieber to a much wider audience. Although the song emphasized teen-pop conventions, the album also reflected his interest in R&B phrasing and vocal styles associated with artists such as Usher and Justin Timberlake. Bieber's early success was followed by the concert film Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (2011), which documented preparations for his 2010 concert tour and reinforced his status as a global entertainment figure.

Bieber continued to expand his sound with Under the Mistletoe (2011), a Christmas album, and Believe (2012). The latter moved toward dance-pop and electronic production while retaining his interest in contemporary R&B. Singles including "Boyfriend," "As Long as You Love Me," and "Beauty and a Beat" presented a more mature image. During this period, he also became an increasingly visible collaborator, working with artists across pop, hip-hop, and electronic music.

A major turning point came with "Where Are U Now," his 2015 collaboration with Skrillex and Diplo. The track's clipped electronic production and vulnerable vocal performance preceded Purpose (2015), an album that marked a substantial change in Bieber's artistic direction. Built around polished dance-pop, tropical house, and personal songwriting, it produced the international hits "What Do You Mean?," "Sorry," and "Love Yourself." Purpose became both a commercial comeback and a critical reassessment of Bieber as an artist capable of moving beyond his teen-idol beginnings.

He followed it with Changes (2020), a more intimate project shaped by contemporary R&B and themes of commitment, and Justice (2021), which combined pop, R&B, gospel, and dance influences. Justice included "Anyone," "Hold On," and "Peaches," the latter featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon. Bieber's work during this era earned major award recognition, including Grammy wins for "Where Are U Now" and "Peaches."

After health problems forced him to postpone and cancel concert dates, Bieber stepped back from touring and public activity. He returned to recorded music with SWAG, released in July 2025. The album continued his movement toward more reflective R&B and pop while reasserting his role as a songwriter and producer. By this stage, Bieber's career had developed from internet-born teen celebrity into a long-running pop career defined by reinvention, genre-crossing collaborations, and an ongoing effort to balance mass appeal with greater artistic control.
