Wiki

Biography

P!nk, also styled as P!NK or P!nk, is the professional name of American singer and songwriter Alecia Beth Moore, born September 8, 1979, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. She became one of the most durable pop performers of the 2000s and 2010s by combining a powerful, rock-influenced voice with direct songwriting, an outspoken persona, and an unusually athletic live show.

Moore began performing as a teenager and joined the Philadelphia-based girl group Choice in the mid-1990s. Although the group did not release a major album, its connection with LaFace Records led to Moore's solo recording contract. Her debut album, Can't Take Me Home, appeared in 2000. Built around contemporary R&B and pop production, it introduced her as a confident vocalist through singles such as "There You Go," "Most Girls," and "You Make Me Sick." The album was commercially successful, but its sound did not yet represent the broader artistic identity she would soon develop.

That transformation arrived with M!ssundaztood in 2001. Working with collaborators including Linda Perry, Moore moved toward a more personal and rock-oriented style. The album produced several of her best-known songs, including "Get the Party Started," "Don't Let Me Get Me," "Just Like a Pill," and "Family Portrait." Its mixture of electronic pop, guitars, autobiographical writing, and sharp self-criticism established P!nk as an artist who could compete in mainstream pop without adopting a traditionally polished image. That same year, she joined Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, and Mya on "Lady Marmalade," a collaboration from the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack that became an international hit.

P!nk continued refining her sound on Try This (2003), which leaned further into pop rock and earned her a Grammy Award for the song "Trouble." Her next album, I'm Not Dead (2006), marked another important stage in her career. Songs such as "Stupid Girls," "Who Knew," "U + Ur Hand," and "Dear Mr. President" balanced radio accessibility with commentary on celebrity culture, loss, relationships, and politics. The album also demonstrated her growing ability to turn personal resilience into anthemic pop.

Funhouse (2008) brought some of her largest commercial successes, led by "So What," "Sober," "Please Don't Leave Me," and "Glitter in the Air." P!nk's videos during this period became central to her artistic identity, often using theatrical settings, dark humor, physical performance, and stylized storytelling. Her concerts developed a similar reputation. She became particularly associated with aerial acrobatics, incorporating suspended choreography and circus-inspired movement into arena shows while maintaining a strong vocal performance.

The albums Greatest Hits... So Far!!! (2010), The Truth About Love (2012), Beautiful Trauma (2017), Hurts 2B Human (2019), and TRUSTFALL (2023) extended her run of mainstream success. "Raise Your Glass," "Fuckin' Perfect," "Just Give Me a Reason," "Try," "What About Us," and "Never Gonna Not Dance Again" showed her range from defiant pop to vulnerable ballads and dance-oriented material. The duet project You+Me, formed with Dallas Green, produced the 2014 album rose ave.

Beyond recording, P!nk has appeared in films and television projects and contributed music to major soundtracks. Her public work has also included advocacy related to equality, social justice, animal welfare, and humanitarian causes. Across her career, she has earned multiple Grammy Awards and other major honors, but her lasting importance rests on the consistency of her artistic character: emotionally candid songwriting, a refusal to remain within one genre, and live performances that make spectacle serve the song rather than replace it.
