Synopsis

Set in the band's dressing room in 1975, the video follows Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons as they apply their trademark makeup and consider whether KISS could perform without it. The story then shifts to a full-scale concert performance of "Rise to It," with the band playing before an energized crowd in classic stage attire. A closing dressing-room scene reinforces the idea that, despite changing times, lineups, and circumstances, the identity of KISS remains inseparable from its iconic image.

• The video marked the return of Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons to their iconic makeup personas for the first time since the Creatures of the Night era in 1982.

• The framing scenes are presented as taking place in 1975, but the costumes are not historically accurate. Gene Simmons wears a costume associated with the 1980 album Unmasked, while Stanley's outfit is linked to Love Gun from 1977.

• Peter Criss and Ace Frehley do not appear in the performance footage. Their places are represented by body doubles, with Eric Carr and Bruce Kulick standing in for the former members.

• Bruce Kulick's costume is especially unusual: he appears in Vinnie Vincent's "Ankh Warrior" outfit.

• "Rise to It" was the third and final single from Hot in the Shade, released in 1990.
