Synopsis

Alice In Chains perform in a murky, dreamlike space filled with distorted close-ups, unsettling props, and surreal visual interruptions. Layne Staley appears at the center of the imagery, at times accompanied by a small galago perched on his shoulder. The video's green-tinted photography, shadowy lighting, and strange transformations reinforce the song's claustrophobic mood. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the clip presents a series of disorienting tableaux that echo the track's themes of confinement, alienation, addiction, and psychological unease.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was released in 1992 to promote "Angry Chair," the third single from the band's album *Dirt*.
  • The animal seen on Layne Staley's shoulder is a galago, a small nocturnal primate sometimes known as a bushbaby.
  • "Angry Chair" was written entirely by Staley, making it one of the few Alice In Chains songs credited solely to him.
  • Staley also played the rhythm guitar part on the song. The *Dirt* sessions marked an important expansion of his role as an instrumentalist within the band.
  • The original video has a green-tinted appearance. A red-tinted version that circulated online was fan-made rather than an alternate official cut.
  • The clip was later included on the band's 1999 home-video compilation *Music Bank: The Videos*.

Angry Walls That Steal The Air
Stomach Hurts And I Don't Care

What Do I See Across The Way
See Myself Molded In Clay
Stares At Me, Yeah I'm Afraid
Changing The Shape Of His Face
