Synopsis

CocoRosie appear in a surreal, dreamlike world where bodies drift, collapse, and seem to fall through an undefined space. Smoke, ash, staring figures, ritualistic gestures, and sudden bursts of movement create an atmosphere that is both beautiful and unsettling. The sisters are joined by dancers and strange spirit-like characters as the imagery shifts between suspended slow motion and ominous tableaux. As the song builds, fire becomes the central image, leading to a stark, enigmatic climax in which the performers appear to burn.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was filmed in two cities: Hamburg, Germany, and Sydney, Australia.
  • Much of its distinctive movement was captured with a Weisscam HS-2 Mk II high-speed camera, allowing the production to emphasize floating bodies, falling figures, smoke, and ash in extreme slow motion.
  • The Australia-based cinematography was handled separately from the Hamburg material, giving the production a transcontinental workflow.
  • CocoRosie are joined onscreen by Biño Sauitzvy and Rebecca Wright, while Connor Van Vuuren and Jean Marc Ruellan appear as spirit figures.
  • The clip accompanied the release of "We Are On Fire," a 2012 Touch and Go seven-inch single. Its B-side, "Tearz For Animals," features Antony Hegarty.
  • The video was noted for its occult atmosphere, gravity-defying imagery, and dark art-film qualities, with contemporary coverage comparing its visual world to the work of Matthew Barney.
