Monarchy feat. Dita Von Teese - Disintegration

Music Video | USA | 2013

Wiki

Synopsis

Dita Von Teese plays a sexually frustrated 1950s housewife trapped in a polished but joyless domestic routine. As she cooks, cleans, irons, and performs the rituals expected of her, her imagination slips into increasingly surreal and erotic territory. Fantasies of naked bodies, seduction, and physical transformation begin to overwhelm the suburban facade. Monarchy appear as mysterious companions within this dream world, while grotesque details, including a memorable mosquito encounter, blur the line between desire, pleasure, and disintegration.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The single was released digitally on January 14, 2013, and marked Dita Von Teese's first vocal appearance on a released song.
  • Monarchy wrote the track specifically for Von Teese after the collaboration developed through a personal connection that began on Twitter.
  • The song's central idea draws on "la petite mort," the French expression commonly associated with the momentary loss of self following sexual climax. The concept was expanded into a broader meditation on surrendering one's identity in a relationship.
  • Eric Szmanda, known for his role on "CSI," supplies the spoken voiceover at the beginning of the video. He reportedly helped introduce Von Teese to Monarchy's music.
  • The production combines practical sets and performance footage with computer-generated imagery and visual effects created by the Israeli creative group Gravity.
  • The video's surreal imagery visualizes the housewife's inner fantasies as a disturbing mass of bodies and limbs, making the contrast between her controlled exterior and private desires central to the video's style.
  • A separate performance film featuring Von Teese was later created for use during Monarchy's live performances of "Disintegration."
