Synopsis

A chain of enigmatic vignettes unfolds in a bleak urban fringe: figures drift through housing blocks, roads, scrubland and interiors while flashes of natural life interrupt the concrete setting. Looks and gestures suggest tension, isolation and an unseen incident, but the film withholds a clear explanation. Its calm black-and-white compositions gradually turn more ominous, leaving responsibility and meaning unresolved rather than delivering a conventional narrative or moral.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video premiered in July 2013 through NOWNESS and accompanied "You Took Your Time," the third single from Mount Kimbie's album "Cold Spring Fault Less Youth."

• Kai Campos specifically wanted the film to avoid a moral or easy conclusion. He praised its compassionate treatment of the characters and its use of strong imagery instead of a straightforward message.

• The five-minute clip was presented as a digital film and received an Austrian premiere at the 2014 Vienna Independent Shorts festival.

• The video's monochrome photography sets the gray suburban environment against sudden, unpredictable bursts of nature, creating a visual counterpart to the song's uneasy mixture of warmth, aggression and abstraction.

• "You Took Your Time" was the first track Mount Kimbie made with King Krule. The earliest sessions took place in the duo's first studio outside their kitchen, while later work at Andy Ramsay's Press Play studio introduced the harmonium that became important to the song's second half.
