Synopsis

Oh Land arrives at a ballet studio to play piano for a demanding class led by a strict instructor. The focus soon shifts to a gifted young male dancer whose discipline and ambition drive him to pursue professional success. As rehearsals unfold, the studio becomes a lively space of movement, playfulness, and connection between the pianist and the young performer. Beneath the colorful, dreamlike presentation, the video reflects the song's warning about chasing achievement so intensely that the process - and the people around you - are forgotten.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video premiered on April 20, 2014, alongside the digital release of "Cherry on Top." The song was the third and final single from Oh Land's 2013 album Wish Bone.

• Filming took place in New York City, inside the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

• Oh Land plays a substitute pianist hired to accompany the ballet class, while Helena Christensen appears as the instructor. Christensen and Oh Land had previously worked together on magazine photography projects.

• The young dancer is Drew Minard, who was touring in the official stage production of Billy Elliot at the time of filming.

• Oh Land described the song as being about perfectionism and the danger of concentrating so heavily on the desired result that the process is overlooked. Her own background as a former ballet dancer informed the video's subject.

• The visual style combines coordinated red-and-blue costumes, strong braided hairstyles, and a 1970s-inspired color palette. Oh Land cited The Red Shoes as an influence for the dancers' presentation, while the production team also drew inspiration from the film Billy Elliot, Sigur Ros' "Valtari," and Wes Anderson's The Royal Tenenbaums.

• The production was intended as the first part of a planned trilogy of short films involving dance, music, love, and the human spirit. The remaining films were never made.
