Synopsis

Nada Surf move through a shifting, dreamlike landscape that passes through spring, summer, autumn and winter. The band appears within changing environments as colors, textures and seasonal imagery blend into a hazy, psychedelic flow. Rather than presenting a literal story, the video turns the song's restless desire for a jolt into an impressionistic journey through cycles of nature and mood. Its constantly transforming surroundings give the performance a sense of motion, renewal and unease.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Electrocution" is a cover of a song by Cleveland musician Bill Fox, whose work Nada Surf had admired before recording it.
  • The track opens Nada Surf's 2010 covers album, "If I Had a Hi-Fi." The record also includes songs associated with Depeche Mode, Kate Bush, The Go-Betweens, Spoon and The Moody Blues.
  • Contemporary coverage described the video as a visually innovative, somewhat psychedelic trip through all four seasons.
  • The song was released as part of the "If I Had a Hi-Fi" campaign in 2010, with the album receiving its broad release on June 8 of that year.
  • Nada Surf drummer Ira Elliot recalled that the band initially struggled to find the right feel for the track. He ultimately created a drum part that gave the recording the extra energy the group was looking for.
  • The video appeared during a period when Nada Surf were presenting an entire album of cover versions rather than promoting a set of newly written original songs.
