Synopsis

A rapid-fire collage of mechanical and human imagery turns "Locked" into a compact piece of abstract cinema. Gears, rotating objects, geometric forms, close-ups of faces and bodies, and repeated movements flash across the screen in tightly edited patterns. The imagery constantly shifts between recognizable figures and fragmented shapes, creating a hypnotic visual rhythm that mirrors Four Tet's electronic pulse. Rather than following a narrative, the video builds momentum through repetition, contrast, and the uneasy beauty of motion reduced to machinery.

• The video is an unofficial, non-profit edit created by ZacGk rather than a conventional label-commissioned production.

• Its source material is Fernand Leger and Dudley Murphy's 1924 avant-garde film "Ballet mecanique," one of the key experimental films of the early film era.

• The re-edit gives the century-old footage a new rhythmic function, matching its repetitions, abrupt cuts, mechanical movements, and geometric compositions to Four Tet's electronic track.

• "Locked" was one of two new Four Tet tracks, alongside "Pyramid," prepared for the Fabriclive 59 mix. Kieran Hebden pressed the digitally produced tracks onto acetate and then recorded them back into the mix to help them sit alongside the warmer, vinyl-based material.

• The song later appeared on "Pink," released by Text Records on August 20, 2012.
